# VALUE Excel Formula

Nowadays, most of the companies are utilizing the program Microsoft Excel in order to calculate and systematize data. Most companies are involved in financial matters. **How to Perform the Value Function in Microsoft Excel?**

The value function syntax is Value(text). Text is the value to convert. To give instruction on how to do it, the following are the procedures:

- Upon knowing the syntax of the function determine the value desired to convert into number. The value can be typed enclosed the quotes or reference to a certain cell.

- Give text constant time or date format, which is accepted by Excel. Once the value of the text is not in the format accepted by the Excel the result is #VALUE.

- VALUE(“13”) = 13. In this, the text illustration “13” was change to number 13.

- VALUE(“$5,263”) = 5263. Since Excel could recognize the dollar sign, it converted the number, without the dollar sign.
- VALUE(“15:30:00”) – VALUE(“12:00:00”) = 0.1. The Value function recognizes these texts as times and change them to their equivalent serial numbers. The difference of the two times is 3 hours and 30 minutes or 1/10 of a day, thus giving an answer of 0.1

These are the ways on how to use the value function during complicated times. The only thing to keep in mind while doing the Excel function is to make sure that all the values or texts are written in the formula recognized by the program. Because once it is not, expect to gain an error and see the remarks #VALUE.

When using the VALUE functions and you obtain #VALUE as the answer, the first thing that you need to do is to check the formula or command you typed in. In most cases, the written formula is the one incorrect. Therefore, to input the correct one, analyze the keyed in formula. Also, make sure that Excel accepts all the symbols that were used because it could also affect the result. Change everything that was found incorrect and continue the process up to the time you get the correct value.
